Moving, emotional book that brings awareness to HELLP

Wow! I'm not sure I can adequately express how I felt about this book. I have never dealt with HELLP syndrome (though I have a couple of friends who have), but I have lost a child (infant), and had to deal with being diagnosed with preeclampsia during one of my pregnancies. I found the author's words very relatable. I understand the depth of her pain after finding out she had lost her baby in the hospital. Her grief is palpable. I found myself almost holding my breath through some parts. And as a bereaved parent the entire book brought me to tears.

In addition, I think the author does an amazing job of bringing awareness to HELLP syndrome by writing about everything that she endured. I don't think that enough people know about this life-threatening condition, and I think more must be done to talk about it so that women are educated and know they are not alone.

This was me....

This was nice to read (as nice as reading about something so horrible can be). My husband and I lost our baby boy, Isaac, at 32 weeks in much the same manner 3 weeks ago. My doctor ignored the symptoms and I ended up 9 hours from home at a tiny hospital with no idea what was happening to me or the life I had planned for our baby. It's so relieving to see the author with a happy healthy baby at the end. It's terrifying to think about another baby now, but it's all that brings us hope in this terrible time of our lives.

The similarities in our experiences are unfortunately remarkable. She's very brave to write it for the world to see. Thanks for having the courage to share.

Courageous and emotional book bringing awareness to HELLP and Babyloss

Although I have not personally experienced HELLP I have several friends who have. My firstborn son died during the last month of my pregnancy from unknown causes. He was stillborn just 3 weeks before his due date. Early on in my grief journey I sought to get my hands on any and every book, website, article about baby loss- anything I could find that would help me understand what I was going through. Anything to help me realize I wasn't alone in my grief and that there were people who understood my heart shattering pain.

If you are a mom struggling through the loss of your child- regardless of how they passed away- this book will help you. It won't take away the pain. It won't fix anything. It won't bring your beloved baby back. But the author's raw description of the loss of her daughter and the near loss of her own life will help you realize that you are not alone in your grief. You will hold your breath at some points because of the vivid descriptions of the events surrounding the loss of sweet Ava. You will cry with her as you read the details of her emotions throughout it all. It is incredibly brave of Melissa to share these intimate details of such a painful time in her life.

I think this book is a great opportunity to bring awareness to HELLP and also to the trauma of babyloss. No parent should ever have to outlive their child. I appreciate Melissa so much for taking her anguish and channeling it to help others struggling through a similar loss. I would recommend this book to anyone as a resource for HELLP and babyloss. Babyloss is so incredibly isolating. It's important for parents who have lost a child to know they are not alone. This books also provides resources for bereaved parents that will be very helpful during such a difficult time.

Gebre Waddell is a noted mastering engineer and owner of Stonebridge Mastering. His 10-year career includes work with artists such as Public Enemy, Ministry, George Clinton, and Rick Ross. Waddell is a current member of the Grammy Recording Academy and the Audio Engineering Society. He has created many resources, including The Digital Publishing Standard for Audio Recordings and a popular spectrographic frequency chart titled “The Frequency Domain.” Most recently, Waddell has been working with DSP algorithm design and VST programming.

A must read for everyone interested in audio mastering

GREAT book, highly recommended for beginners as well as mastering and audio pros.
I have selected this book as no.1 resource on mastering conducting the mastering lessons of the audio engineering diploma at SAE Berlin. It will greatly help my students gain some understanding and in depth knowledge about the art and science of audio mastering.

Strong introduction and reference material for audio mastering

I'm a novice to music production. I'd heard of mastering and mixing, but wasn't entirely sure of much more than that. I was delighted to find that Complete Audio Mastering is both an accessible introduction to audio mastering and a solid discussion of professional mastering techniques.

The book starts from scratch, introducing the key concepts behind mastering - why it's a necessary part of an album's creation, and what's involved from beginning to end. From there, he outlines equipment, techniques, and tips for avoiding common mistakes. No two mastering engineers will master the same track the same way, so trying to create a step-by-step from process beginning to end is like trying to describe how to paint a portrait. Instead, the author lays out the tools and techniques of his profession and describes what does and doesn't work.

My favorite thing about the book is how much I learned about just listening to music. Volume is key; Mr. Waddell mentions that increasing the volume just a fraction can completely change a listener's appraisal of a piece, which is why maintaining strict control of volume is important in mastering, and why the Loudness Wars resulted in poor mastering practices.

One word of warning: I wouldn't expect a novice to instantly know how to master. There are technical details that will likely go above the head of a beginner; I'd suggest reading this as a textbook alongside a course or an internship (Gebre Waddell discusses several possible 'next steps' in chapter 15.) But even if you don't plan a career in mastering, Complete Audio Mastering is a fantastic guide to what goes behind the scenes after an album is mixed. Excellent book for intermediates and pros alike!

I am not a novice by any means but I will forever be a student at heart. I always like to read topics of interest, even if I am knowledgeable on the subject. I feel a good book keeps my skills sharp and/or there will be a few gems of information that I can fit into my artillery. Gebre Wadell's book "Complete Audio Mastering" is exactly this kind of a book! I find this book practical, direct, and well laid out. Highly recommended.

This book will be useful for all entrepreneurs and business owners, especially if you are only starting your way to financial independency and want to quit meaningless 9 to 5 office job. This book saved my life!!!

first modern edition, Observations upon
Liberal Education is a significant contribution to the
Scottish Enlightenment and the moral-sense school of
Scottish philosophy. George Turnbull embodied these
movements of ideas as much as his more famous
contemporary Francis Hutcheson.

In Observations, Turnbull applied these ideas to
the education of youth. He showed how a liberal
education fosters true “inward liberty” and moral
strength and thus prepares for responsible and happy
lives in a free society. He drew upon an impressive
number of authors, both ancient and modern, including
John Locke. Indeed, there is probably no richer treasure
trove of sources for the educational debates of the
eighteenth century.

Terrence Moore, who wrote the introduction, notes
that “Observations upon Liberal Education
provides an extensive and illuminating treatment of
education, sensitive to the means of inculcating the
personal responsibility necessary for living in a free
society.”

Turnbull was the mentor of Thomas Reid, but his
influence was not confined to Scotland. Benjamin
Franklin, in drafting his Proposals Relating to the
Education of Youth in Pensilvania, drew generously
from Observations.

George Turnbull (1698–1748) belongs to the founding figures in the Scottish Enlightenment. Finding their
native Calvinism repressive, they sought a rational religion closely associated with their new
science of human nature, supportive of tolerance, and compatible with classical ideals.

George Turnbull (1698-1748) furthered the Enlightenment in creating a plausible educational regime suited to human beings possessed of the moral faculties necessary to live as adults in an increasingly free and prosperous society. Terrence O Moore Jr is Principal of Ridgeview Classical Schools in Fort Collins, Colorado. Dr Moore was formerly Assistant Professor of History at Ashland University in Ohio.

Drawing upon educational debates and sources

First published in the 1700's, Observations Upon Liberal Education is a classic treatise by George Turnbull (1698-1748), a contemporary of Francis Hutcheson and one of the driving intellecutal forces behind the Scottish Enlightenment. This new edition has been carefully edited by Terrence O. More, Jr. (who also provided an informed and informative Introduction) for a contemporary readership. In Observations Upon Liberal Education, Turnbull sought to place a groundwork for creating a society of free, enlightened, upstanding and educated citizens. Drawing upon educational debates and sources to put forth his inspired ideals, his work is a classic and optimistic commentary.
