She has authored three books in the subject areas of Quality Assurance: Quality 5e; Quality Management 2e and Six Sigma. Great read for TQM principles

I am completing my Masters degree and this was a required book for my Total Quality Management course. This is one of the few books that I have actually enjoyed reading and decided to keep so I can reference it in the future. It provides a solid over view of a number of quality management principles and theories. It was straight forward and easy to read unlike some others where authors over complicate things in an attempt to justify spending absurd amount of money on their textbooks.

This morbidly fascinating memoir-in-comics is one of the more frightening recollections of childhood bullying you're likely ever ever read. Rall grew up in the 1970s in Kettering, Ohio ("suburb of the damned"), a town of stunning homogeneity that concealed an undercurrent of absurd intolerance. An intelligent, "brown-haired, brown-eyed freak" with divorced parents and a French mother, Rall was routinely vilified by his unambitious, intellectual-hating classmates and relentlessly beaten and harassed by Brian, a strange and brutal kid he first encountered in junior high. Brian made Rall's life miserable for no discernible reason other than Rall's superficial social difference. Smaller than Brian and fearful of him, Rall was nevertheless equally cruel, devising indirect but gruesomely violent counterattacks. Rall's mother was powerless to stop these daily clashes, school officials were weirdly indifferent and the strange, primal conflict continued into high school. Puberty miraculously added eight inches and 12 pounds to Rall's frame, and he finally beat Brian into a bloody, senseless heap in the school hallway. Presented in Rall's angularly comic b&w drawings, the story alternates between a quirky poignancy and a thoughtful but bleak humor. With irony and introspection, Rall examines the effects of this bizarre experience on his development. He still often dreams of killing Brian but admits that "Brian made me stronger, but he also made me meaner, less trusting, hateful of hypermasculine men.... without him I might never have drawn cartoons, escaped Ohio or gotten laid."

YA-Political and social-commentary cartoonist Rall offers a fictionalized slice of his junior and senior high school experiences with the class bully. Because his story is told entirely from the perspective and with all the insight of the teenaged male protagonist, not only is the profanity profuse but other possibly offensive, yet realistically on-target, vocabulary abounds. Brian Koff may have been a bully but clearly young Rall offered him opportunity and excuse: the narrator shows himself to be somewhat conceited, defiantly classist, and ready to lash out with assorted weaponry. He hospitalizes Brian, plans his murder, and continues to demonstrate his own abilities to draw enemy blood all the way through high school. This is testosterone-driven fantasy in part, perhaps, but as anyone who remembers the cruel underbelly of adolescence can attest, events like the ones recorded here can be as much a part of the local school hallway culture as pinup pictures of movie stars. Rall's introduction memorializes a high school friend who chose suicide over responding with violence against his tormentors. Is there another way? Of course, but in real life, sometimes it is just plain impossible for kids to see that adolescence with all its evils isn't a permanent condition. Will this book speak to high school readers? Absolutely! But adults who have forgotten how gruesome those years can be also need to read it.

Known for his acerbic political cartoons, Rall turns his caustic gaze inward in an autobiographical graphic novel about his misery in junior high in suburban Ohio. He was an alienated nerd, tormented by a loutish, psychotic bully who, for no apparent reason, chose Rall as his personal victim. Teachers and other adults refused to help Rall, leaving him to deal with Brian through violence that started out defensive but gradually turned sadistically vengeful. The escalating battle forced Rall into an ultimate assault that he then saw as the only way to prevent being marked as a victim for the rest of his life. Two decades later, a more introspective Rall ponders the lasting effect of Brian's harassment on his personality. To this day, Rall's behavior remains confrontational and defensive; he wonders whether his superior attitude prompted the bully's abuse. Rall's memoir is fueled by the bitterness and anger that inform his editorial cartoons and sports their vaguely cubist figures and distinctive scratchboard technique that makes them look like punk woodcuts. Brilliant and true

I moved to the States from Alaska at about the same time as Ted Rall was in HS, to finish high school. This comic is the only thing I can think of that ever captured that era - [impolite word] "Dazed and Confused" for example.
I should add that the high school I went to (in Wisconsin) was a (Lutheran) theocracy to rival anything in Iran. While I was constantly getting beat on by a gang of openly white supremacist kids at the school, which was quite backward by Alaskan standards, I usually got the flack from school officials who were chummy with them. Other than the extremes of the ultraviolence, I think people should think twice before thinking this is some kind of exaggeration for effect by Rall. Ted Rall's visual style is great, too, and I was happy to see that people who bought My War with Brian also read Ruben Bollings, another superb comic genius. I think Rall is a good representative of us 30-somethings born in the 60s, too - a more or less Lost Generation between the baby-boomers and their echo generation, but which includes the whole Brat Pack and cartoonists like Tom Tomorrow, Rall, and, I believe, Bollings.

Shocking and savage yet rings with truth

Just when you think Ted Rall's, "My War with Brian," is going to be another run-of-the-mill victim story about bullying, this autobiographic tale takes a surprising shift when the misfit geek decides to fight back in shockingly savage fashion. And thus begins a full fledged war spanning the eternal length of time during Junior High and High School where Ted Rall learns to be a man, standing up for himself and exacting due punishment to those who strike at him, consequences be damned. At times, laugh out loud funny, this book will also shock in reminding you how brutal kids/teens can be to one another - the physical cruelty that Ted and Brian exact on one another is frightening in its murderous intent but just past that initial layer of shock comes a somewhat disturbing reminder of the cruelties adolescents face as they transition to adulthood.

The Grove Encyclopedia of Islamic Art and Architecture lends a new perspective to a discipline that has become critically important since the publication of its parent set, the 34-volume Dictionary of Art (1996). Bloom and Blair, Islam and central Asia editors for the parent set, used as their point of departure the Dictionary of Art’s 468-page article on Islamic art plus Islam-related content from other articles, including Arms and armor, Jewelry, and Papercuts. They define Islamic art as that “made by artists or artisans whose religion was Islam, for patrons who lived in predominantly Muslim lands, or for purposes that are restricted or peculiar to a Muslim population or a Muslim setting.” Within that framework, the encyclopedia encompasses “art and architecture in southern Europe, northern Africa, and west, central, and south Asia over 14 centuries.” The goal was to “make the relatively obscure field of Islamic art as accessible as possible to the widest possible audience” and to “encourage readers to explore other aspects of Islamic civilization and the interrelationships between Islamic art and other artistic traditions.” The encyclopedia contains 1,600 articles by 375 scholars and more than 600 photographs, black-and-white reproductions, color plates, drawings, maps, and floor plans. Entries often begin with a brief definition and then place the topic within the context of Islamic art. Some include alternate vocabulary, such as the 14 words used for Caravanserai in locations from Baghdad (dar) to Fez (funduq). Many of the extensive bibliographies (Berber, Calligraphy) include items published after 2005. About the Author

Jonathan M. Bloom and Sheila S. Blair share the Norma Jean Calderwood University Professorship of Islamic and Asian Art at Boston College and the Hamad bin Khalifa Endowed Chair of Islamic Art at Virginia Commonwealth University. A husband-and-wife team, they study all aspects of Islamic art from the seventh century to modern times. Bloom is particularly interested in the arts of the medieval Mediterranean region as well as the history of paper. His most recent book is Arts of the City Victorious (2007), a study of the art and architecture of the Fatimid period in North Africa and Egypt. Blair is particularly interested in the arts of Iran and Central Asia, the Mongols, and the history of the Islamic book. Her latest book is Islamic Calligraphy (2006), for which she won several international awards. In addition to their hundreds of individual articles, reviews, and monographs, they have written or edited seven books jointly. They also served as consultants to the 3-hour documentary Islam: Empire of Faith, shown nationally on PBS, and are convenors of the Hamad bin Khalifa Biennial Symposium on Islamic Art. Both Bloom and Blair received their Ph.D.s in Middle Eastern Studies and Fine Arts from Harvard University in 1980.

He has specialized in several areas of networking, including network design, analysis, and security. Prior to starting SYS, Inc., Todd was in the United States Air Force as a survival instructor. He currently holds a B.S. in marketing from Florida State University and an A.A. Instructor of Technology and an A.A. in Survival and Rescue Operations from the Community College of the Air Force. His professional certifications include MCSE on Windows 2000, MCSE +Internet on NT 4, MCSA, MCT, CCNP, CCDP, CNX, A+, Net+, iNet+, CTT, and Security+.

What's their real objective?

I've used the Training Guide Series to prep for my A+ and Network+ exams. I'm currently working on my Security+ certification. I've gotta say that I'm very dissapointed in this book. I felt dissatisfied with the review questions included in the Network+ book, but I did pass that exam without any problem. The quality of the questions given in this book is even worse than it was in the Network+ book. The first two chapters are approximately 100 pages each. Chapter 1 has 15 multiple choice questions. Chapeter 2 has 5 Mulitiple choice questions. Not once on either of my CompTIA exams was I asked a short answer question. There's too many variables introduced into an exam for short answer.
This book includes three sections in its end of chapter review: Multiple choice (the type you'll see on the exam), short answer, and one or two exercises.
For the amount of material I've just read in Chapter 2, and the depth of that material, 5 multiple choice questions is just pathetic. What's their real objective? Force people to buy their PrepLogic practice exams? I haven't needed extra pracitce exams to prepare for my previous two certifications.
Also the exercises are somewhat unrealistic. There's no way you can use company servers to practice these techniques, and going out and buying a copy of Windows 2000 Server is not in my budget to do the exercises included in this book. Not only would I need a Win2K Server, I'd also need clients that are not needed. Who can afford to go out and spend that kind of money to do their proposed exercises? What's next? Let's configure our Cisco Router. I mean, afterall, everyone has a few Cisco routers sitting around they can experiment with.
For my next certification, I'll definately ditch the Que Training Guide Series. I'm highly dissatisfied with the amount of evaluation of how much I've learned. 5 questions for 100 pages of material is not enough to demonstrate that I've learned what's important.
Also, so far, I've noticed a lacking in the exam tips in the side bars. Most of the exam tips in the first two chapters I didn't need to buy this book to know. Do the authors really have any clue what's going to be on the exam? Previous Training Guide Books did a good job of pointing out important notes and highlights. This book loads you down with very good info, but skimps on the highlights.

Network Security is becoming the most sought after position in the IT world these days, yet in order to get these jobs you need to be certified. There are over 20 possible security certifications so where do you start?

How do you determine which exam to take and which certification is right for you? Well you might want to start with the CompTIA Security+ vendor neutral certification. Now all you need is the right study material and that is where this book comes in.

With over 600 pages of material covering every exam objective this book has good coverage of the material. I think that certain areas such as PKI management could be expanded just a bit.

Also the practice questions were close to the actual exam, and I think that more should be added. The author certainly has an excellent understanding of the material and evident throughout the book.

With the ever changing world of Security, this book should have regular updates, either via the web or a new edition of the book. Also included is a Prep Logic cd, while Prep Logic does produce a high quality product this is not the full version of the product. Although for the money it should have been included.

Overall this book is a useful tool outside the exam and you stand a decent chance of passing the exam. Couple this book with the Exam Cram2 Security+ and you have a better chance.

Not a bad place to start

As you all know, no single book will prepare you for any certification exam. This is no exception. But this book is a very good start on your path to the Security+ certification. It covers all the objectives on the exam, some better than others. So get yourself several texts to study for your exam, and make sure this is one of them. You will get a good head start towards passing that exam.

Not the best

First off, most of those books are meant to be for beginners. So most likely people on their own who just want to learn.
A full chapter on management is interesting but irrelevant.

Now my main concern, page 118 we learn that a vector (-6,4,0.2) would become (-1,1,1) while normalized. Well no, it would become (-0.83,0.55,0.02). So right away that puts the rest of the book on hold as is it really worth since the author feeds us wrong info.

Still there are what seems to be interesting part on how to improve the game so I give it a 2 for those reasons.

Fairly useless

This book isn't worth the investment. Lots of time wasted on how to do project management, etc. and little time is focused on the Unity system itself. I ended up returning the book to Amazon because it's that bad.

Good place to start for iOS game development with Unity...

I just got this book because I plan on developing for iOS devices.

This is great for beginners who have never worked on the iOS platform
in that it is very informative with what an iOS developer needs to get
started developing & pushing their Unity project to iTunes.

There are 2 projects in the book, a ball in maze & a go-kart racing game.
The sample projects are great starting points to get familiar with iOS
specific input commands. The author also discusses optimization techniques
for iOS devices.

There are sections in the book that talks about project management &
marketing your game. While that information is appreciated, I would have liked
to get more information about iOS specific API as it relates to Unity (perhaps
adding a "virtual joystick")- but that's a bit lacking. API info is
what I was really looking for in this book. I'm going to have to look for
that elsewhere.

Final thoughts. The author expects the reader to have basic knowledge of Unity
& its scripting (C# or UnityScript). There are MANY video tutorials available
online to get started on that. While lacking some iOS specific API info,
this book is a good place to start if you want to publish your games on iTunes.
