Lecture notes on General Surgery, now in its 9th edition, remains a concise best-selling textbook of surgery which has helped hundreds of thoussands of students pass finals. In addition, many MRCS candidates now use the book as a rapid revision aid on the principles of surgery. This edition has been completely revised and updated.

About the Author
David Dunn died whilst in the process o creating this third edition of Dunn’s Surgical Diagnosis and Management. He was as outstanding teacher of surgery. His logical mind saw many ways of providing essential information in an easily digestible format - a great benefit to generations of students at the Cambridge Clinical Medical School and the original basis for this book.

His initial training was at Cambridge and St. Bartholomew’s Hospital and he returned to Cambridge, firstly as Assistant Director of Research to the Academic Surgical Unit and subsequently to the NHS Consultant staff, to which he was appointed in 1974 and on which he remained until his premature retirement through ill health in 1997.

During his twenty-three years as a Consultant he displayed a keen interest in many of the emerging areas of surgical practice; these included transplantation, vascular and paediatric surgery, surgical audit and latterly, and with tremendous success, minimally invasive techniques. His ability to identify likely areas of surgical expansion was uncanny, and few surgeons in modern times have been able to achieve such success in so many different fields.

He overall surgical ability stemmed from a very secure basic knowledge. His concise analysis of surgical principles form the cornerstone of this highly successful book, written with Nigel Rawlinson, his former House Surgeon, and now into its third edition. This book will continue to be deservedly popular at Cambridge and at many other Clinical Schools for years to come, and will remain a lasting tribute to its senior author.

Late one night, Christopher comes across his neighbor's poodle, Wellington, impaled on a garden fork. Wellington's owner finds him cradling her dead dog in his arms, and has him arrested. After spending a night in jail, Christopher resolves--against the objection of his father and neighbors--to discover just who has murdered Wellington. Christopher Boone, the autistic 15-year-old narrator of this revelatory novel, relaxes by groaning and doing math problems in his head, eats red-but not yellow or brown-foods and screams when he is touched. Strange as he may seem, other people are far more of a conundrum to him, for he lacks the intuitive "theory of mind" by which most of us sense what's going on in other people's heads. When his neighbor's poodle is killed and Christopher is falsely accused of the crime, he decides that he will take a page from Sherlock Holmes (one of his favorite characters) and track down the killer. As the mystery leads him to the secrets of his parents' broken marriage and then into an odyssey to find his place in the world, he must fall back on deductive logic to navigate the emotional complexities of a social world that remains a closed book to him. In the hands of first-time novelist Haddon, Christopher is a fascinating case study and, above all, a sympathetic boy: not closed off, as the stereotype would have it, but too open-overwhelmed by sensations, bereft of the filters through which normal people screen their surroundings. Christopher can only make sense of the chaos of stimuli by imposing arbitrary patterns ("4 yellow cars in a row made it a Black Day, which is a day when I don't speak to anyone and sit on my own reading books and don't eat my lunch and Take No Risks"). His literal-minded observations make for a kind of poetic sensibility and a poignant evocation of character. Though Christopher insists, "This will not be a funny book. I cannot tell jokes because I do not understand them," the novel brims with touching, ironic humor. The result is an eye-opening work in a unique and compelling literary voice.

Adult/High School-When a teen discovers his neighbor's dog savagely stabbed to death, he decides to use the deductive reasoning of his favorite detective to solve the crime. Employing Holmesian logic is not an easy task for even the cleverest amateur sleuth and, in Christopher's case, it is particularly daunting. He suffers from a disability that causes, among other things, compulsive behavior; the inability to read others' emotions; and intolerance for noise, human touch, and unexpected events. He has learned to cope amazingly well with the help of a brilliant teacher who encourages him to write a book. This is his book-a murder mystery that is so much more. Christopher's voice is clear and logical, his descriptions spare and to the point. Not a word is wasted by this young sleuth who considers metaphors to be lies and does math problems for relaxation. What emerges is not only the solution to the mystery, but also insight into his world. Unable to feel emotions himself, his story evokes emotions in readers-heartache and frustration for his well-meaning but clueless parents and deep empathy for the wonderfully honest, funny, and lovable protagonist. Readers will never view the behavior of an autistic person again without more compassion and understanding. The appendix of math problems will intrigue math lovers, and even those who don't like the subject will be infected by Christopher's enthusiasm for prime numbers and his logical, mathematical method of decision making.

First, I would like to share my experience whilst reading this book. At first I didn't really understand what the purpose of this book but by the end I could clearly see what the author really wanted to share with the readers. This book is a way in which the author found to help people to understand what someone with autism sees and how someone with autism thinks. This books allows all readers to see through the eyes of a young boy with autism. The book helped me realize how different we are from people with autism but at the same time how similar we can be to people with autism some times. So I would recommend the book probably to anyone older than 12.

Next, it is true that the book has several strong topics, but the question is could they have been avoided? The answer to me is simple, in my opinion the topics of drinking, cheating and affairs are thing that people have to deal with in a daily basis so I don't see how this would be a reason why someone should not read the book. Also, I understand that these topics above are topics that may seem inappropriate for younger audiences, but at the same time the book never promotes in any way these things. Again, obviously these topics are not appropriate for a 8 year old but to me a 12 year old should be able to read this book, no problem and not feel appalled. The final topic that should be addressed is the foul language that is present in this book. The boy (Christopher) doesn't really know that these words are bad words, so to me at least it's justifiable them being in the book, and let's face it, everyone swears, maybe not all the time or a lot, but everyone has definitely done it.

In conclusion, I would recommend this book to people ages 12 up due to the strong content and foul language. This book is a must read, I would definitely encourage anyone who is willing to understand more about the world of autism to read it. It will definitely help many people to finally understand how different but at the same time how similar anyone can be to someone with autism.

An Amazing Read

“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” is an amazing read. The fact that the narrative was told by the actual autistic boy made the novel captivating, taking me by surprise. I could truly feel Christopher’s feelings through the author’s wonderful choice of words. I also enjoyed how Mark Haddon captured the moments of both family love and despair. The actual events in the book could certainly relate to young children going through tough trials. I could feel the uneasy air between characters, and it definitely gave me shivers running down my spine.

Although I can truthfully say that I could understand Christopher’s feelings through each and every word, I had difficulty loving him as an individual. Throughout the book, Christopher comes to strongly dislike a certain man, but the man truly wants to love Christopher with all his heart. Christopher begins to stop displaying any sort of affection to the man, which really left me with pain in my heart. As a sympathetic person, I felt extremely horrible about the situation. I do realize that Christopher has trouble understanding others’ feelings, but if he just showed one small moment of love to the man, I would come to enjoy the main character’s unique personality.

Anyone searching for a small ray of hope would definitely come to love this book. This novel builds up to the amazing theme at the very end, which indubitably gave me ambition to do just about anything. Readers who are searching for a book filled with mystery and action will be thrilled. I can certainly say I had a wonderful little adventure of my own by reading this small paperback.

Was hoping for more

I was hoping for more from this story because so many people have raved about it. It was well written but I did not empathize with any of the characters. I came away thinking of how hard it must have been for the parents of this difficult child who was just so hard to like. Anyway, maybe just my personal take. I have to be in invested in the characters to really "feel" a story, and I just didn't care about these ones.

About the Author

Kelly Anderson's documentaries include My Brooklyn (2012) and Every Mother’s Son (2004, with Tami Gold). Her work has been screened on the PBS series POV and on HBO, and she was nominated for a national Emmy Award. She is a Professor in the Department of Film and Media Studies at Hunter College, City University of New York.

Martin Lucas is a documentary filmmaker and educator with over 30 years of experience making and speaking about documentary worldwide. His most recent film, Hiroshima Bound (2015), is a personal exploration of coming to terms with the Atomic Bomb. He teaches�in the Department of Film and Media Studies at�Hunter College, City University of New York.

Mick Hurbis-Cherrier teaches film production and screenwriting at Hunter College,�City University of New York. Professionally, he has worked as a screenwriter, director, cinematographer, and editor. He is the author of Voice & Vision: A Creative Approach to Narrative Film and DV Production 2nd ed. (Focal Press) and the coauthor of Directing: Film Techniques and Aesthetics, 5th ed. ... book is the basics of electronics taught in a easy to learn format

I had bought the original book back in 1987 while I was in college taking refrigeration mechanics and this book is the basics of electronics taught in a easy to learn format. Since reading this book I continued to learn electronics till I was able to do TV, stereo and amplifier repair. I also have built many hi gain tube amplifiers since the first read of this book. This book is a good starting place.

For my Ethics Class at Santa Fe College Gainesville

This book was assigned for my Ethics course at Santa Fe College in Gainesville. It is a difficult read as it is basically just an anthology of essays (at least the first few chapters). Some translated, some just formal old English, and obviously the issues being covered are a little deeper than your normal academic textbook. Personally I am not a fan of this as an introduction to Ethics, but I suppose if you've had some exposure to reading a little bit of philosophy previously, you might enjoy it more. The book was in decent shape for the price and arrived quickly.

OK for a textbook

This book was needed/used for a college Philosophy class. Most of the text contains information regarding many different philosophers with excepts from different papers that they have written. A few things that I don't like about the book: no index and very little reviews/critiques on what the authors are saying. Many of the articles were written several hundred years ago, so difficult in many instances to interpret. Unless you need this book for a particular class, you may want to consider another choice.

Full of Wrath

By far the best book in the series so far. It started out very slow, especially after the surprising ending in Wasserman's 3rd book in the series, Pride. Of course it was not slow for long with ongoing scenes building up to a very surprising ending. The book deals with more issues than the other three. I love the realationship status between everyone. Kaia and her bizzare realationships with Powell and Reed. Harper, Beth, and Adams, weird connections. And Miranda and her on-going crush on Kane. In this book Harper is very much alone after Adam and beth found out what happened. With her only friends being Kane and Kaia. Kaia deals with her realationships with Reed the scruffball and Powell the French teacher. Miranda and Beth team up for this book to get their wrath out on (mainly) Harper and the rest of the gang who screwed them over.There is also a weird and unexpecting realationship betwen Kane and one of the girls(Very Surprising!)! Adam is just laying around after realizing his life has amounted to nothing but being alone.
I love how Wasserman keeps the reader on the edge of their seat, turning page after page to see what will happen next. Normally it is very hard to read about seven main characters and keep everybody straight, but Wasserman does a great job (again!) with connecting everyone and keeping everyone unique!
I love this book and I encourage everyone to buy this book and the rest of the series. These are some of my favorite books!
With such a twist at the end I cannot wait for the rest of the series!

I love these books. I can't believe there aren't more reviews for them. They are definite guilty pleasures, and I wasn't expecting to like them this much. They're miles ahead of Gossip Girl or any of those types of books, in terms of writing and character development. Also, each book is as good, if not better, than the last. I'm not saying they're great lit or anything, but they are very entertaining. And I really enjoy the relationships between the characters. After the ending of Wrath (not what I was expecting at all), I'm pretty much dying for the next installment.

Great Book With A Surprising Ending

I just finished reading the fourth book in the Seven Deadly Sins Series " Wrath" and I just loved it, it keeps you guessing and I really loved the potential of Reed/Kaia and what happens to Kaia and Mr.Powell too, the evil jerk that he is. Someone dies but we won't find out till the next book. I still can't stand Beth and Miranda the most useless characters in the series. Still love Harper and Kaia and KAne and Reed.
