Unfortunately, Kray is too close to the events to tell an objective story or even to realize where American readers need more background information. While he waxes compassionate describing the state execution of a friend, his cool description of a murder he committed in cold blood shows that the only lives he values belong to Kray or his friends. Although this book might have value as a psychological study of a habitual criminal or may generate interest because of the recent movie The Krays , it is strictly for libraries with large true crime sections.

If you want to know what it was really like for Reggie Kray then get this book. You will not want to but it down! This is one of the best books I have ever read. Even if you're not a Kray fan this book is still worth buying because it helps you to understand his/ their (Ronnie Reggie and Charlie) lives. And it also is interesting to read about emotions and thoughts. So buy this book, I don't think you will regret it!

Reg makes his peace

As an American, I found this book of great value. For an outsider, the Eastend's fabled lore is brought to light. Reg Kray (for his notorious history) writes like a true author. Many of the Kray twins' activities are finally documented in the first person and with wonderful description. Definitely a good read, if you are interested in the glamour of London in the 60's and the Krays in particular.

Language learning advice for adults

This fascinating book sits at the intersection of linguistics and cognitive science, but it might not be for everyone.

The authors provide a lot of commentary on the language-learning experience, often with their own personal anecdotes. The book provides a lot of different angles to view the question of "fluency" from, though it isn't organized with any particular narrative.

This book covers things like overcoming the Confirmation Bias, leveraging your adult brain to learn language more efficiently than kids do, and accepting that maybe keeping your foreign accent is better than going native.

This book is about more than language learning, even though that is its main theme and why I bought it. I learned much about how the mind works, how we remember, how adults learn in different ways than children do. It is an upbeat book, with helpful advice and examples from the two author's own language learning experiences.

Max the detective is a former bedwetter himself, so he understands what his clients are going through. In careful steps and clear, easy- to- follow instructions, Max helps an 8-year old boy named Billy Parker to learn to stay dry at night while he is sleeping. Fun illustrations and positive messages like going on Poop Patrol, joining the Stream Team, positive self-programming affirmations all help the program take hold effectively. For the last, the child repeats to himself, 'If I need to go at night my bladder will hold all of my pee till morning. But if I can't hold all of my pee I will wake myself up and go to the bathroom (p. 35).' At the end of the book are extra resources like How to Become a Super Dooper Pooper, a Word Search, and Make Your Own Badges, plus Q & A About Bedwetting (Just For Parents). At last, help for kids who wet their beds

In over thirty years as a psychologist working with children who wet their beds, this is the first book I've found that combines the essential ingredients of reassurance, information on why kids wet their beds and step-by-step kid friendly advice on how to stop wetting. Max Archer lets kids know they are not alone(approximately 5 million kids in the US wet their beds!) and then goes on to use humor and illustrations to show how the bladder works. The author presents the best cognitive and behavioral strategies for eliminating bed wetting. Rather than seeming like a daunting task, the project is laid out in a one step at a time process. The kids I have used the book with tend to react, "Oh, okay, I can do that." and then begin working toward their goal. I can only hope that Max Archer goes on to star in a series of self-help books for kids.

My 7 year old was comforted by this book

My son was upset that he still wet the bed at age seven, but found comfort reading this book. We read it together at first, but later I'd find him pulling it out to read through on his own. It combines a simple story (with characters he can relate to) with scientific facts, advice, and even some humor. We tried some of the methods in the book, but then my son got frustrated and didn't want to try for a while, so we went back to pull ups ( which Dr. Bennett says is fine - no need to push him sooner than he wants).
In our case, eventually, after several dry nights with pull ups, at age 7 1/2 we have moved to underwear at night and have had four dry nights in a row (yay!)

I think our dry nights now probably have more to do with my son's body maturing than anything specific recommended in the book (Dr. Bennett points out that as the child gets older, it is likely to resolve), but for the psychological value alone, this book was worth it. When a character in the book is frustrated that he stll wets the bed while his little sister is dry at night, my son responded, "that's like me!" The book does a good job of letting children who are struggling with bed wetting know they are not alone.

This is a great book for a child who struggles with bedwetting. My child also loved the book, Prince Bravery and Grace - Attack of the Wet Knights Prince Bravery and Grace - Attack of the Wet Knights This book really got my child motivated to use a bedwetting alarm. And its a clever read for kids and adults. We read it almost every night for a month. And by using the books and an alarm my eight year old son went from wet every single night to completely dry in about 10 weeks.

From the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright to the rock gardens of Zen Buddhism, Coleman explores applied, fine, and folk arts in order to uncover points of coalescence between art and religion. Drawing from six living faiths (Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, and Taoism), this book philosophically analyzes relations between art and religion in order to explain how the concepts "art," "beauty," "creativity," and "aesthetic experience" find their place or counterparts in religious discourse and experience. Coleman repeatedly shows that aesthetic ideas can serve as bridges to spiritual categories, as when he relates aesthetic bliss to "the peace that passes all understanding."

The author follows a three-fold approach; first, he examines ideas and motifs from religious classics in world literature, such as Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching and The Interior Castle by Teresa of Avila, in order to relate them to aesthetic phenomena. Second, he turns to the statements of artists, such as Leo Tolstoy, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Shih-t'ao, and Wassily Kandinsky, for themes and practices that have religious significance. Third, he analyzes and evaluates the writings of various theoreticians--philosophers, theologians, art critics, sociologists, and psychologists--on the relations between art and religion. Coleman demonstrates, for example, that Martin Buber's I-Thou relationship captures much that is central to art, creativity, and aesthetic experience as well as to religious life.

Among the themes that receive sustained treatment are: the varieties of union in art and religion, the child as a paradigm for artists and saints, and creativity as essential to religion. Finally, the author critically weighs proposed distinctions between art and religion and between the broader categories of the aesthetic and the spiritual, rejecting some and showing how others are compatible with his proposal that the aesthetic and the spiritual are cognate categories.

Earle J. Coleman is Associate Professor of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is the author of several books, including Varieties of Aesthetic Experience and Philosophy of Painting by Shih-t'ao.

Articulate and Mind-Opening

I rented this book from my university's library, intrigued by the title. Being both a highly passionate artist and a deeply spiritual person, I was immediately interested. I have always suspected that there were relations between artistic and religious acts, and author Earle J. Coleman expands on this theory, with a lot of illuminating, penetrating insight. He discusses that both art and religion involve a communication and inspiration from a divine source (possibly the same source) and that all artists and theologists should strive to remain in touch with that divinity in many ways, such as expressing your inner child (in order to be open, faithful, and nonjudgmental), being a receptive vessel for inspiration and creative energy, and setting aside shallow ego desires in order to be fully immersed in the creative/spiritual process. Coleman states that while he does not believe that art and religion are completely intertwined, he believes that the two subjects intermingle in many ways like the creative art and fables found in religions and churches, and the transformative, cathartic power of creative work. Reading this article renewed my passion and faith in my craft, as well as the enigmatic Higher Power that works through me in order to express that craft.
